Roscoe Conkling (1829-1888)
Justice Conkling was twice nominated to the Supreme Court. He was nominated Chief Justice by President Ulysses S. Grant. Conkling said: no! Later president Chester A. Arthur nominated him as Associate Justice. However, after the confirmation Conkling again refused the appointment. Conkling is the last man to refuse an appointment to the Supreme Court. Conkling autographed a card. Included on this board is a print of Chester A. Arthur. There is also A press photograph of President Ulysses S. Grant

Finally, Snoopy, “The Red Baron’s” first day issue containing original art and a phrase of snoopy “rats”, like, why did I refuse that appointment?” Finally, there is a period print of a man unconscious in the snow.
