11th Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes #62 autograph’s a letter dated December 7, 1907 little realizing that date was to become a date FDR said would go down as a date in infamy. The letter was written by the Chief Justice while he was Governor of New York and before he relinquished his seat on the Supreme Court as Associate Justice to run, and lose, a bid for President. The vicious are the willing and the ignorant are the unconscious instruments of political artifice. …The selfish hand seeks to control government the peril of this nation is not in any foreign foe, “we the people” are its power it’s peril and its hope.”
